Another government funding deadline approaches – this one on December 8, according to Politico (note: paywall) – and again some Democrats are considering forcing a government shutdown, this time over legislative action on ex-President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

NTK Network reported on the shutdown threat, led by potential 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), last week.

It’s just the latest shutdown threat from Democrats, though. Here’s a partial list of everything they have threatened a shutdown over in 2017 alone.

  • DREAMers/DACA: This is a favorite of 2020 hopefuls, despite Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) once saying a shutdown over immigration would be “governmental chaos”
  • Aid to Flint, Michigan: Democrats wanted $220 million for aid to Flint included in a September spending bill
  • A clean funding bill with no “conservative policy” additions, no changes to “Obama-era rules,” and no increases to defense spending: these were several demands of Democrats during the April shutdown showdown (as if Republicans didn’t control government)
  • Doing basically anything to Obamacare: Democrats are so fixed on avoiding any changes to Obamacare that leaders have been willing to shut down the government over any changes to the controversial law

And that’s just a partial list. The year’s not over, and threatening a shutdown appears to be one of Democrats’ favorite threats in the Trump era. Stay tuned.
