After Trump Tweets, IL Gov. Rauner: Local & Federal Government Need to Fight Chicago Violence

A day after President Trump tweeted that he would “send in the Feds” if Chicago violence is not curtailed, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner said in his State of the State address that the local, state, and federal governments must join in combatting the violence.

“Violence experts say there’s no single cause and no single solution, but with the right mix of policies with a joint commitment between the city, the county, the state, and the federal government, we can and must find solutions to curb the violence,” Rauner told the Illinois State Legislature.

Rauner also emphasized the need for increased educational and employment opportunities in afflicted areas, aiming at what he called “root causes” of the violence.

Trump tweeted that if Chicago did not find a way to end the “carnage,” he would use federal resources to deal with the problem.
