Cook explained that his family's own military service is what taught him what it means to be an American.

Apple CEO Tim Cook claims that he isn’t running president in 2020 but told Chicago Mayor and Democratic operative Rahm Emanuel that he supports the idea of mandatory military service during an interview on Emanuel’s podcast.

During the interview, Emanuel told Cook that in his book, “The Plan: Big Ideas for America,” he calls for six months of mandatory national service.

“I love that idea,” Cook told Emanuel. “My dad was in the military. My brother served in the military.”

Cook explained that because of this there was a great love for the military in his family growing up.

“I have always personally, even though I have not served in the military, I’ve always had the utmost respect [for service],” Cook told Emanuel. “My own opinion is as people know fewer and fewer people who are in the military, that there is a bit of that connection in society that has been lost.”

“I don’t think it’s the only issue by any means. But for me I would say…that it was the thing that taught me what an American was, what it stood for,” Cook concluded.

Cook has said that he isn’t running for president in 2020 but continues to make statements that sound like they are coming form someone who is running.
