Bad Moon Rising for 2018? Congressional Dems’ Approval at 35 Percent

Americans approve less of Democrats in Congress than they do of President Trump, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll.

President Trump is beating Democrats in Congress in approval ratings, according to a new poll released by ABC News and The Washington Post on Monday.

The poll found President Trump’s approval rating is south of 40 percent, but approval for congressional Democrats, led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), are even worse. Only around one-third of Americans approve of Democrats in Congress, and 57 percent disapprove.

It’s been a rough year for Democrats. Despite a recent deal with President Trump on the debt ceiling and government funding, Schumer and Pelosi have had to cope with a Democratic divide over their “Better Deal” agenda, a potential deal on DREAMers with President Trump, and Bernie Sanders’ divisive “Medicare for All” proposal.

Congressional Republicans don’t fare better, earning 22 percent approval from Americans. Almost 11 months since securing both chambers of Congress and the presidency in November 2016, Republicans have failed to fulfill their seven-year-long campaign promise of repealing and replacing Obamacare.
