Biden Claims He’s Not Actively Planning a 2020 Run, But His Actions Tell a Different Story

The former vice president has launched a PAC, taken part in high profile speaking engagements, and been a vocal critic of President Trump since leaving office in January.

Former Vice President Joe Biden claimed that he isn’t planning a presidential run in 2020 over the weekend. But Biden’s own actions since leaving office in January suggest he’s not entirely closing the door to that possibility.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey to tout his new book “Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose,” Biden told Winfrey he isn’t considering a 2020 run at the moment.

“I say that ‘not yet’ because I’m a great respecter of fate,” Biden told Winfrey.

CNN reported that Biden added that “he is not currently planning or organizing a bid.”

That doesn’t appear to be entirely true though.

Since leaving office in January, Biden launched the “American Possibilities PAC,” a move typical of someone who plans on seeking higher office.

Biden has also been an outspoken critic of President Trump and his administration since leaving office, which is something of an unprecedented move for a former vice president.

Then there is the matter of Biden’s speaking engagements across the country with notable individuals like Ohio’s Republican Governor John Kasich and American entrepreneur Sean Parker.

Biden’s own family seems optimistic that the former vice president will run in 2020. CNN reported in June:

“The family of Vice President Joe Biden is serious about him being taken seriously as a 2020 candidate. His brother dialed into a radio show this week to say Biden “absolutely” has another run in him. “Why anyone would think otherwise, I don’t know,” he said. Jill Biden recently pledged her husband “is not going away.”

Biden himself recently told a crowd in Salt Lake City that he believes he is qualified to be president.

While the 75-year-old Biden claims he isn’t actively planning a presidential run in 2020, it doesn’t appear he is ready to shut down that possibility entirely.
