Former interim chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Donna Brazile dodged when asked about the legality of the fundraising agreement that existed between Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the DNC, during an interview on Sunday.

In Brazile’s new book “Hacks,” she revealed that an agreement between Clinton’s campaign and the DNC existed which allowed the Clinton campaign to have input on how the DNC spent its funds during the 2016 presidential election.

NPR reported on the revelation:

“Brazile took over the DNC as interim chair following Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s sudden resignation during the Democratic National Convention. Once she was at the party’s helm, Brazile wrote that she discovered an agreement that “specified that in exchange for raising money and investing in the DNC, Hillary would control the party’s finances, strategy, and all the money raised. Her campaign had the right of refusal of who would be the party communications director, and it would make final decisions on all the other staff.”

Some have questioned the legality of such an agreement, and ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked Brazile whether she thought the agreement was legal.

“As I said at the time George, I didn’t like the fact that there was an additional memorandum that spelled out what the Clinton campaign could do in exchange for bailing the Democratic Party out,” Brazile responded. “I give Secretary Clinton credit for bailing the Democratic Party out because we were in debt.”

Brazile never addressed whether she thought the agreement was legal in her answer to Stephanopoulos’ question.
