The California Democratic Party has taken a sharp turn to the left, and it’s even giving liberals like Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) whiplash.
California Democrats are lurching to the left in the Donald Trump era, and one of their first political casualties may be liberal Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
Politico reported on Sunday that the progressive knives are out for the 83-year-old senior senator from California because, according to left-wing activists, she is not doing enough to oppose Trump:
In a state marked by its unfettered resistance to the president, California’s senior senator and ranking Democratic member of the Judiciary Committee is dealing with burgeoning unrest in the party ranks at home, a symptom of the roiling anti-Trump politics on the left. Despite her interrogation of Neil Gorsuch at his Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Feinstein’s brand of moderation is showing signs of slipping out of favor in a state that delivered a landslide margin against Trump.
Feinstein, long a senator of the true-blue Golden State, is hardly an example of bipartisanship. The recent Lugar Center rankings put Feinstein at 59th for bipartisanship, out of 100 senators.
That doesn’t matter for California liberals though. For example, they are going to war with their outgoing chairman, who told protesters to “shut the f— up” at an event over the weekend.
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) has done a better job than Feinstein at satisfying the base, dropping f-bombs at a recent podcast event.
The Feinstein problem, though, illustrates that Democrats may be confronting their own “Tea Party” problem, an observation Washington Post reporter Paul Kane made on Sunday evening:
This is the story for every DC-based Dem saying "we don't have a liberal tea party problem" – no, you do. https://t.co/RNWUe6jCa1
