The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza said that Senate Democrats don’t have the votes needed to block President Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.
“I think Democrats would like to take down one of Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees,” Cillizza told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “The problem is, Andrea, exactly what you just said — they don’t have the votes.”
Cillizza pointed out that Democrats need just one more Republican to join them, but that after a weekend of lobbying Republican senators, it doesn’t appear they will get that other senator to join them. In all likelihood, means that DeVos will be confirmed when Vice President Mike Pence votes to break the tie.
