In a Sunday morning appearance on Meet the Press, RNC Chairman and future White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus confronted host Chuck Todd over claims that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election. Throughout the interview, Todd and Preibus routinely talked over one another in an attempt to make their points.
Drawing on reports from The New York Times and The Washington Post, Todd asked Preibus if the incoming Trump administration had confidence in U.S. intelligence capabilities and if Russia intervened in the election.
Preibus responded by calling assertions that the RNC was hacked in The New York Times’ story “not true.” Priebus continued, “I’m refuting the specific fact that was made in the article to create this entire firestorm and the specific fact that we’ve been told by the FBI repeatedly, including two days ago when we checked back with them about this issue, repeated the fact that the RNC was not hacked.”
Todd tried to pin down Preibus on whether he believed Russia was involved in the hacking, but Preibus pointed out the fact that Todd “did not have a single source” that said the RNC was hacked.
