CNN and Brianna Keilar appear to be trying to give credit to fake news stories regarding Melania Trump divorcing Donald Trump.
CNN aired a six-minute segment that focused almost entirely on First Lady Melania Trump’s clothing selection during Donald Trump’s first international trip as president. Another portion of the segment was spent on discussing Melania Trump not holding President Trump’s hand on Wednesday.
CNN’s White House reporter Kate Bennett and style commentator Mary Alice Stephenson joined CNN’s Brianna Keilar for the segment Wednesday afternoon.
“Before people say, ‘why are you talking about clothes?’ These are not just clothes. This is a communication of statement,” Keilar started the segment off trying to head off any criticism.
The panel spent about four minutes discussing the meaning behind different outfits that Melania Trump has worn throughout the trip.
Then Keilar shifted the topic to what she called “the hand swat seen around the world.”
“My read on this, and you tell me if I’m wrong, she’s kind of getting edged out there on the welcome carpet. Some people have said maybe it also wasn’t appropriate to be holding hands at this moment,” Keilar told the panel.
The hand swat prompted numerous ‘fake news’ stories regarding the couple’s marital status.
