Angela Rye isn’t satisfied with just taking down Confederate statues.
CNN Democratic commentator Angela Rye said on Thursday that statues of all slave-owners in the history of the United States needed to come down, including statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.
“George Washington was a slave owner. And we need to call slave owners out for what they are. He wasn’t protecting my freedom,” Rye said.
“I don’t care if it’s a George Washington statue or a Thomas Jefferson statue or a Robert E. Lee statue – they all need to come down,” she said.
The Daily Beast’s Jon Avalon accused Rye of “feeding into” President Trump’s and Steve Bannon’s narrative.
“I’m not feeding into white supremacy. I’m calling out white supremacy for what it is,” Rye responded.
Rye then said that America was founded on “the death and the raping and the killing of my ancestors.”
Rye is a Democratic strategist.
