One organizer admitted that they wear masks to prevent prosecution for crimes they commit.
CNN’s Jake Tapper reported on Antifa’s violent actions over the years, following the clashes between the group and white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The group uses tactics like “violence, fires, property damage, [and] hand-to-hand combat” to fight those they deem to be fascists. Antifa has gone beyond fighting “fascists,” though, and has also targeted “government and capitalism,” CNN’s Sarah Ganim reported.
One organizer of the militant group told Ganim that the group wears masks so they cannot be identified, and they regularly break the law.
An interview with Portland law enforcement revealed that Antifa has placed a strain on local police’s ability to contain violence at these large rallies.
