The CNN host pointed out the president’s tough rhetoric following North Korea’s canceled plans to escalate confrontation.
CNN host John Berman pointed out that President Trump’s tough rhetoric on North Korea could have forced Kim Jong-Un to back down Tuesday.
Kim Jong-Un announced Wednesday that he would not pursue a plan to launch ballistic missiles at Guam.
“There’s been a whole lot of analysis of what President Trump has said, ‘The U.S. [is] locked and loaded to go after the North Korean regime,’ and he was criticized for those comments on some fronts,” Berman said.
“But since he said them, China has issued new, stronger sanctions than before on many North Korean imports, and as you just put it and I agreed, Kim Jong-Un blinked,” Berman added to Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling.
Hertling agreed that it was possible that Trump’s tough talk scared off North Korea and credited Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for presenting a tough, united front against Pyongyang.
