Nebraska Democrat Phil Montag was removed from his post following the surfacing of the recording.
Nebraska Democrats removed Technology Committee Chairman Phil Montag after an audio recording of him surfaced, praising the shooting of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) and wishing for the congressman’s death.
He made the comments in a conversation with Chelsey Gentry-Tipton, chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party Black Caucus and a friend.
“I’m f*cking glad he got shot,” Montag said in the clip. “I’m glad he got shot.”
The other people in the audio pushed back on Montag’s comments.
“I’m not going to f*cking say that in public,” Montag continued.
“Then what are you saying it to us for?” yelled the friend. “What are you telling us for?”
“I wish he was f*cking dead!” Montag added.
Throughout the conversation, Montag struggled to pronounce Scalise’s name.
The unnamed friend then revealed that he had been recording the conversation and would release Montag’s disgusting comments to the public.
The Nebraska Democratic Party removed the official on Thursday following the releasing of the audio.
