Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) cited a discredited dossier published by BuzzFeed News during a House Select Intelligence Committee hearing regarding Russian involvement in the 2016 election. He did so to make a case that Donald Trump’s campaign hired campaign officials because of their ties to Russia.
“In fact, the dossier written by former MI-6 agent Christopher Steele alleges that Trump agreed to sideline Russian intervention in Ukraine as a campaign issue, which is is effectively a priority for [Russian President] Vladimir Putin,” Carson told the committee.
Carson went on to say, “There is a lot of the dossier that’s yet to be proven, but increasingly, as we’ll hear thoughout the day, allegations are checking out. And this one seems to be as accurate as they come.”
Carson goes on to claim that top Trump adviser’s Paul Manafort, Carter Page, and Michael Flynn were hired because of their Russian connections.
