Dem Rep Doesn’t Know If The Party Has A Leader

Ohio’s Tim Ryan also agreed with the perception that the Democratic Party is the party of the coastal elite during an interview on C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal.”

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) said that he didn’t know if the Democratic Party had a leader and agreed with the perception of many Americans that the Democratic Party is the party of the coastal elite during an interview on C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” on Wednesday.

C-SPAN’s Paul Orgel asked Ryan who the leader of the Democratic Party is at the moment, a question that has plagued Democrats in 2017.

“I don’t know if we really have one, to be honest with you,” Ryan responded. “It’s reflected in the polls there, you know clearly Senator Schumer and Leader Pelosi are our leaders of each piece of the legislative branches of government, elements of the legislative branch of government. But I guess it’s unknown.”

Orgel also asked Ryan if he agreed with the perceptions that the Democratic Party is the party of the coastal elite and how Democrats would go about changing that perception.

“It’s a true perception, and I’ve been, since November, trying to get the word out that this is real. This is something that is real,” Ryan responded.

Ryan unsuccessfully challenged House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for her leadership role in the House of Representatives following the 2016 elections, and after Democrats failed to win a single special election in 2017, Ryan again called for a change in the Party’s leadership.
