Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) said in an appearance on MSNBC Wednesday morning, “Republicans shouldn’t bet on any Democratic votes to rebuild [Obamacare].”
When asked if there was a possibility that Democrats would help Republicans craft a replacement for President Obama’s signature piece of legislation, Murphy denied that any chance existed. “No. They own this. If they want to break this, they own it,” Murphy said.
Murphy also scoffed at the idea of Democrats working with Republicans, saying, “Republicans right now, a lot of them think that they can repeal it and then work with Democrats later to fix it.”
Murphy remained open to the idea of repealing the Affordable Care Act if Republicans put a replacement in place first, saying, “I think there are some Republicans of good will in the House and the Senate who…will step back and say listen, ‘Let’s take our time and form a replacement, make some fixes before we repeal it’… I think that’s the message a lot of us are going to be conveying to our Republican friends.”
