Dem Senator Says He’s Worried About Trump Launching Nuclear Weapons

Chris Murphy made clear he doesn't trust the president with the nuclear codes.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) told a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Tuesday he is afraid President Trump will launch an unprovoked nuclear strike.

“We are concerned that the president of the United States is so unstable, is so volatile, has a decision-making process that is so quixotic that he might order a nuclear weapons strike that is wildly out-of-step with U.S. national security interests,” Murphy told the hearing, which is focused on the process for launching nuclear weapons.

The senator said that America has to “recognize the exceptional nature of this moment.”

Murphy is no stranger to hyperbole. In April, he doubted whether senators could discuss secure issues in the White House, and in March, he offered wild Russia conspiracies about the Trump campaign with no evidence.
