The New York Times broke the story that the acclaimed film producer has been abusing women employees and actors for years.
A New York Times report on Thursday detailed decades of sexual harassment allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Several women, including actresses Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd, had either accused the producer of sexual harassment or unfair treatment based on sex.
In addition to his film career, Weinstein had made a name for himself in Democratic politics, donating to the party’s candidates throughout his career.
The report references his deep ties to the Democratic and liberal establishment:
A longtime Democratic donor, he hosted a fund-raiser for Hillary Clinton in his Manhattan home last year. He employed Malia Obama, the oldest daughter of former President Barack Obama, as an intern this year, and recently helped endow a faculty chair at Rutgers University in Gloria Steinem’s name. During the Sundance Film Festival in January, when Park City, Utah, held its version of the nationwide women’s marches, Mr. Weinstein joined the parade.
The Weinstein revelations are certainly uncomfortable for Democrats, who have received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the producer since 2011.
Throughout the 2016 campaign, Democratic infrastructure made allegations against President Trump a centerpiece of their smear campaign. Now, Democrats are looking at a major donor and fundraiser facing similar accusations.
According to CNN’s Jake Tapper, Weinstein’s harassment history was “one of the most open secrets in Hollywood:”
Hollywood producer I know: "Shocked it’s taken so long for a Harvey Weinstein behavior expose. One of the most open secrets in Hollywood."

The question for Democrats, now, is how much did they know about Weinstein’s history while pocketing his donations?
