Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), who recently mounted an unsuccessful campaign for the position of House Minority Leader, struggled to explain why the Democratic Party matters.
MSNBC’s Ali Velshi asked Ryan about this months Time Magazine cover, which features Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and poses the question “Do The Democrats Matter?”
“Well of course we do. I mean, the democracy runs on an opposition party,” Ryan told Velshi, then proceed to make a hockey analogy about skating to where the puck is going to be. Ryan then proceeded to attack President Trump for promising to bring jobs back to America.
Velshi pointed out that the Democratic Party didn’t do anything when they were in power to prevent jobs from going to Mexico, and that at least President Trump is out there attempting to accomplish something.
Ryan took the opportunity to attack Trump for his excessive tweeting before touting several Democratic proposals.
Velshi asked Ryan why Democrats didn’t accomplish these proposals when they were in power. Ryan blamed the Democratic Party’s inability to accomplish anything on the 2008 financial crisis.
