At President-elect Donald Trump’s rally in Grand Rapids, Betsy DeVos laid out what she’ll do when she’s education secretary – starting with Common Core.
On Friday night, Secretary of Education nominee Betsy DeVos joined Donald Trump at his rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A Michigander herself, DeVos shared her priorities for the Education Department under Trump.
“It is time to make education great again in this country,” DeVos said to cheers. “This means putting kids first every single day.”
DeVos went on to pledge she will “finally [put] an end to the federalized Common Core,” because “the answer is local control.”
DeVos warned that “there is a lot of false news out there” about her record, but that “all I ask for is an open mind and the opportunity to share my heart.”
The crowd of Trump supporters in Michigan gave DeVos an enthusiastic welcome. The Wall Street Journal has a piece out Friday on DeVos’ success in bringing charter schools to Michigan.
