In a Senate confirmation hearing for Deputy Attorney General, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) questioned nominee Rod Rosenstein over Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ recusal from investigations related to contact between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.
Rosenstein said that complex and overlapping rules govern the process of recusal and that he trusted the “non-partisan” career professionals who helped Sessions come to his decision.
Durbin pressed his concerns that Sessions left open a “wide gap” in which Sessions could insert himself into the investigation.
