Tom Perez admitted that Obamacare needs to be improved but did not offer any solutions for how Democrats could accomplish that.
Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez on Thursday struggled to defend Obamacare’s failures during an interview on MSNBC.
MSNBC’s Ali Velshi asked Perez why Democrats are opposed to working with Republicans on repealing Obamacare to create a better bill, given the flaws in Obamacare that have been exposed since it launched.
“The problem with the Senate bill is it’s not a healthcare bill. It’s a massive tax cut for wealthy people,” Perez responded. “The Affordable Care Act has been a life saver for millions and as you correctly point out it is far from perfect.”
Velshi followed up by pointing out how millions of Americans didn’t see the benefits of the Medicaid expansion, and all they saw were their premiums increase and their doctor go away under Obamacare.
“The affordable care act, while it has obviously been a life saver for millions, it’s always been — had room for improvement, Ali,” Perez responded.
