Interim Democratic National Committee Chair Donna Brazile gave an exit interview to Politico’s Off Message, during which she claimed that she saw the possibility of Donald Trump winning the 2016 election.
“As a strategist, back in August during the Iowa fair, I said on ABC I believe at the time that yes, you could feel the groundswell for Donald Trump. He was the kind of candidate who was rewriting the Republican rulebook,” Brazile told Politico’s Edward-Isaac Dovere.
“I talked about how Donald Trump could be a threat in the Midwest, because Claire McCaskill was there, Tammy Baldwin was there, Bob Casey, and Al Franken and I kept saying, ‘He is a threat.'”
If this is true, then it raises questions about Brazile’s strategy to to pour DNC resources into Chicago and New Orleans to drive up the popular vote rather than focus on states like Michigan and Wisconsin, which Trump won and contributed to his stunning election victory.
