Jen Psaki said that Hillary Clinton failed to listen to people during the 2016 presidential election during an interview on CNN.
White House communications director under former President Barack Obama, Jen Psaki, said she didn’t believe Democrats learned the right lessons following the 2016 election.
CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Psaki how Obama was able to win over voters who had frustrations with the elites in 2008 and 2012, something that Hillary Clinton failed to do in 2016.
“I think if you look at focus groups, even just anecdotally, people felt that he was fighting for them and that he had a very specific message to people who were struggling, people who felt hopeless, that he was going to be their guy fighting for them,” Psaki responded.
As for Clinton Psaki said she “had plans and papers that were coming out of her ears. She talks about it, of course, in the book. But she never made that direct connection with people.”
“Part of that, I think, is probably not listening to people and hearing what was happening in the country,” Psaki concluded. “It’s not just her fault on that. It’s certainly many Democrats’ fault. I’m not sure we’ve learned the right lessons.”
