FACT CHECK: Democrats Already Lying About GOP Tax Plan

“On average, middle class families earning less than $86,000 would see a tax increase under the Republican ‘tax reform’ plan,” Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) tweeted on Friday.

That tweet was preceded by a pair of tweets from Sens. Bob Casey (D-PA) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR), both of which claimed those earning $86,000 or less would see an annual tax increase of $794.

It turns out these Democrats are just lying.

The Washington Post blasts these Democratic senators for making up facts and figures from whole cloth. In fact, as the Post points out, the result of the GOP’s tax plan would be just the opposite: a tax break for middle class families:

In their haste to condemn the GOP tax plan, Democrats have spread far and wide the false claim that families making less than $86,100 on average will face a hefty tax hike. Actually, it’s the opposite. Most families in that income range would get a tax cut. Any Democrat who spread this claim should delete their tweets and make clear they were in error.

The Post gave these Democrats its harshest rating, the dreaded Four Pinocchios.

Republicans are expected to unveil their tax plan Thursday morning.
