Protesters calling for a $15/hour minimum wage held a “rally” titled “The McStruggle Is Real: Have It Our Way Now,” on Tuesday in Chicago.
A small group of protesters showed up to the event and were filmed chanting, “All we ask for is one more cent to feed our families and pay our rent…”
The protestors are, of course, asking for more than just a cent increase. The current minimum wage in Illinois is $8.25 per hour, making a $15 minimum wage nearly double the rate.
According to the Brookings Institute a $15 an hour minimum wage, “constitutes a wage increase of 50% to 100% in most places (even after adjusting for inflation).”
“McStruggle” is a play on words for fastfood chain McDonald’s, while “Have It Your Way” was a slogan used by Burger King starting in the 1970s until 2014.
