On Thursday, Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-FL) appeared on CNN’s New Day to push back against a report that the FBI is investigating a straw donor scheme involving Murphy.
According to The Hill, “the FBI is investigating an alleged illegal donation scheme involving a wealthy Saudi family that supports Democratic Florida Senate candidate Patrick Murphy.”
CNN’s Alisyn Camerota asked Murphy if he was aware of this investigation.
“No, and our campaign follows the letter of the law,” Murphy said. “We’ve never been contacted by the authorities. No one on my campaign has been contacted.”
Murphy went on the blame the investigation on “right-wing groups” and called these attacks “nonsense.”
