With both men set to make anything between $100,000,000 and $300,000,000 each, this will probably be the fight of the decade.
Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is set to fight against UFC champion Conor McGregor this Saturday in Las Vegas in what is being billed as the biggest fight since the letdown that was Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.
The fight is scheduled to start around 10 PM EST at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and both men stand to make anything between $100,000,000 and $300,000,000 each.
Mayweather is the heavy favorite, currently sitting at -450 according to OddsShark, but the majority of the money in Vegas is going behind McGregor with people hoping for a big day.
Vegas stands to lose a considerable amount of cash if McGregor can stun the world by defeating Mayweather, but most experts agree that this is unlikely. But then again, there’s a chance McGregor could pull it off.
So here is the case for both men:
CASE FOR MAYWEATHER:
Floyd Mayweather is 49-0, arguably the greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time, and considered one of the best defensive boxers and accurate punchers to step in the ring.
If you’re betting on Mayweather, then you’re making the smart bet in this fight. The problem is Mayweather is such a heavy favorite you’re going to have to put up a lot of cash to see any real payout though.
However, there is still money to be made by betting on Mayweather to win this fight by decision, which is currently at +250.
Considering this Mayweather has not knocked anyone out since he fought Victor Ortiz in 2011, and it doesn’t seem likely that he will go for a knockout blow against McGregor, as a controversial decision usually leads to a bigger payout for the rematch.
BEST BEAT: Mayweather by decision +250.
CASE FOR MCGREGOR:
McGregor is a huge longshot just considering the fact that he is changing not just his fighting style but his sport, so that he can participate in this fight. But that’s not to say that McGregor doesn’t have a puncher’s chance.
The best bet on McGregor is probably a prop bet that he will knock out of Mayweather in the early rounds. McGregor has famously made quick work of his opponents, once knocking out Jose Aldo in 13 seconds.
McGregor’s left hook has been described as a gift from the Irish gods by some.
Though a knockout in the first round seems highly unlikely, it’s no more unlikely than McGregor winning the fight making, and at +1400 you stand to make a lot of cash on that bet if it lands.
BEST BET: McGregor first round victory +1400.
Don’t be sentimental, don’t be an idiot: put your money on Mayweather. There is a reason he’s such a big favorite, and the house always win.
