Alejandro Garcia Padilla leveled the charge on MSNBC on Thursday.
Former Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla told MSNBC’s Craig Melvin on Thursday that President Trump is not paying attention to the devastation in Puerto Rico because he is “racist.”
“[Trump’s] talking to his electoral base,” Padilla said. “He’s showing off that he’s just racist.”
“Let’s call it by his name,” he added.
Melvin responded that Padilla’s claim was a “bold assertion.”
“It is,” the former governor responded.
He did offer praise, however, for House Speaker Paul Ryan’s and Vice President Mike Pence’s response to the disaster and said they were showing off American values.
Padilla then turned back to the president. “He does not embody the land of the free and the home of the brave,” he concluded.
