Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) joked about Education Secretary Betsy DeVos getting physically blocked from entering a D.C. public school last week during an interview on CNN’s State of the Union.
CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Franken about the incident which occurred on Friday and whether that type of action was appropriate.
“It would have been her first time ever in a public school,” Franken told Tapper.
Franken was an outspoken critic of DeVos during her confirmation process and eventually voted against her.
Tapper followed up by asking whether Franken’s claim was true.
Franken laughingly responded, “no, I don’t know,” then told Tapper that DeVos should not be prevented from doing her job.
