Former GOP challenger Corey Stewart is reportedly planning to endorse GOP nominee Ed Gillespie about a month ahead of Election Day.
Corey Stewart, the Virginia Republican who didn’t hold back any attacks against Ed Gillespie in the Virginia gubernatorial primary, is reportedly planning to endorse his former rival, according to The Washington Post.
Corey Stewart, who pilloried Republican Ed Gillespie during their GOP gubernatorial primary fight in Virginia, has been communicating with Gillespie about a potential endorsement at the urging of former White House chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon and President Trump’s former deputy campaign manager, David N. Bossie, according to five people familiar with the matter.
“If it takes an endorsement to help defeat the radical, antifa left from taking over control of our state, I will do it,” Stewart told the Post.
Gillespie is locked in a tight race with Democrat Ralph Northam. Consolidating support from rivals could give his campaign the boost it needs against his opponent.
