Reporter Glenn Thrush, who recently left Politico to join the New York Times, appeared on a panel Tuesday to discuss media coverage of the 2016 presidential election.
During the discussion, the panel was asked about the impact of race on the election.
“A lot of counties that were previously Obama counties in two elections flipped for Trump. So he was expressing something, and I think there is no question, if you sort of look at the alt-right phenomena that there is a racial component to some of his support, but I think that it is a misread to say that that’s the only reason,” Thrush said.
During the election, emails came out that showed Thrush running stories by Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta for approval before publishing.
Thrush will be covering the Trump White House for the New York Times.
