Google Is Now Hunting Down Liberal Dissenters

Unsatisfied with destroying conservative critics, the conglomerate is now training its fire on liberals.

Fresh off of a controversy in which the company chased out a conservative employee critical of its diversity policies, Google is now under fire for ferreting out analysts at the Google-funded New America Foundation who praised an EU fine levied against the corporation, according to a New York Times report.

Barry Lynn, an academic with the New America Foundation, “ran a New America initiative called Open Markets that has led a growing chorus of liberal criticism of the market dominance of telecom and tech giants.”

Lynn published a piece praising an EU antitrust decision that hit Google for “anti-competitive behavior.” Following this, New America promptly fired Lynn and his team.

According to The Times report, Google and its executive, Eric Schmidt, have poured millions of dollars into the foundation:

The New America Foundation has received more than $21 million from Google; its parent company’s executive chairman, Eric Schmidt; and his family’s foundation since the think tank’s founding in 1999. That money helped to establish New America as an elite voice in policy debates on the American left.

The report alleges that Schmidt had informed Anne-Marie Slaughter, president of New America and a former Obama administration official, that he disapproved of the statement. The New America president then did Schmidt’s bidding:

Ms. Slaughter told Mr. Lynn that “the time has come for Open Markets and New America to part ways,” according to an email from Ms. Slaughter to Mr. Lynn. The email suggested that the entire Open Markets team — nearly 10 full-time employees and unpaid fellows — would be exiled from New America.

For her part, Slaughter has called the report “fake news:”

Google stepped into controversy earlier this summer when it fired conservative programmer James Damore for questioning its diversity programming. Following the most recent episode, it appears that Google’s pursuit of censorship knows no ideological bounds.
