In an appearance on CNN’s New Day Thursday, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said that House Republicans would investigate former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s Russia ties in the same manner that they investigated the attack on a U.S. outpost in Benghazi in 2012.
According to Jordan, the House would wait for the results of other committees’ investigations before deciding whether or not to inaugurate a Select Committee.
Host Chris Cuomo listed out the effort that House Republicans had put into the investigation of Benghazi: “For Benghazi, you encompassed half a dozen probes by five different committees. The formation of a Select House Committee, 33 hearings, $7 million on Benghazi.”
Jordan pointed out, though, that all the steps Cuomo listed came after “the Intel Committee, the Foreign Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, [and] the Oversight Committee had deliberative hearings for a long, long time before Speaker Boehner called for the Select Committee.”
Given the length of the Benghazi investigation, it could potentially be years before the American public receives full answers on the Flynn affair.
