U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley said on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday that there could be no political solution in Syria while President Bashar al-Assad remained in power.
“A political solution going to have to happen, but we know that there’s not any sort of option where a political solution’s going to happen with Assad at the head of the regime,” Haley said.
Haley added that “If you look at his actions, if you look at the situation, it’s going to be hard to see a government that’s peaceful and stable” with Assad.
She also reiterated the administration’s commitment to the number one priority of defeating ISIS.
However, Haley added, “Secondly, we don’t see a peaceful Syria with Assad in there. Thirdly get the Iranian influence out.”
