The failed presidential candidate didn’t show any regret for calling her political opponents a ‘basket of deplorables.’
Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton showed no remorse for her comment calling President Trump’s supporters a ‘basket of deplorables’ in a new interview with “CBS News Sunday Morning.”
“I thought Trump was behaving in a deplorable manner. I thought a lot of his appeals to voters were deplorable. I thought his behavior as we saw on the Access Hollywood Tape was deplorable,” Clinton said. “And there were a large number of people who didn’t care. It did not matter to them.”
Interviewer Jane Pauley told Clinton that she “fed into” Trump’s appeal with the remark. “You energized [Trump’s base],” she said.
“They were already energized,” Clinton deflected.
Pauley disagreed, saying Clinton “offended some people who didn’t personally feel deplorable at all.”
“I don’t buy that. I don’t buy that. I’m sorry I gave him a political gift of any kind,” Clinton responded, dodging responsibility.
“That was a gift,” Pauley commented.
