Following an NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll that showed Hillary Clinton trailing Donald Trump by 19 points “among voters who are currently serving or have previously served in the U.S. military,” Clinton’s press secretary Brain Fallon appeared on MSNBC in an attempt to spin these numbers. Fallon said Trump was just “inheriting the typical advantage that a Republican usually enters the general election with when it comes to military and veteran voters.”
NBC’s Chuck Todd argued that the Clinton campaign has spent the entire summer eviscerating Trump as unfit to be Commander-in-Chief and that this poll shows that Clinton’s messaging isn’t breaking through.
Fallon was unable to explain why Clinton’s messaging has not broken through with veterans, dodging the question entirely by citing the 95 retired generals and admirals that endorsed Hillary Clinton today.
