The Democratic National Committee (DNC) continues to want to have it both ways when it comes to sexual harassment. The party’s leadership has condemned sexual harassment while at the same time retaining funds donated by accused serial sexual assaulter Harvey Weinstein.

DNC Vice Chair Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) condemned sexual harassment in the entertainment industry during a DNC live event with Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) on Tuesday.

“I’m very, very thrilled seeing young women coming out and saying let me tell you what happened to me. These stories are absolutely heartbreaking,” Waters said about the series of stories alleging sexual assault at the hands of high profile individuals in the entertainment industry.

“I mean this must happen to people all over this country, and now we’re hearing about this, and this is a moment to fight back,” Ellison remarked. “I will say, men need to join women in this fight…we cannot let our sisters fight this battle alone. We have to hold these people accountable.”

But what Ellison did not mention is that the DNC received thousands of dollars from Weinstein – money the organization refuses to donate or return to the disgraced Hollywood producer. Ellison has dodged questions in the past about these donations.

The Hill reported that “the DNC has received about $300,000 from Weinstein over the years, federal election records show,” but elected to donate $30,000 of that to the Democratic-aligned PAC EMILY’s List.”

Ellison himself recently refused to answer why the DNC has not yet returned these funds.
