The number two Senate Democrat praised Putin’s historical knowledge and leadership while bashing his own president.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), the Senate Minority Whip, praised Russian President Vladimir Putin when compared to President Trump in an appearance on MSNBC on Friday.
MSNBC’s Mark Halperin asked Durbin to name Putin’s most positive and most negative traits.
Durbin first went into Putin’s positive traits:
[Putin] is gifted in his knowledge of history. Our president is not. He certainly knows how to meet with foreign leaders and to push his agenda. Our president has limited experience in that. He knows the intelligence agencies of Russia since he was a member of the KGB for a period of time. Our president tends to deride his own intelligence agencies and their findings.
Even Durbin’s criticisms became implicit hits on Trump, saying, “He, too, suffers from a form of megalomania.” Durbin’s use of “too” implied his remarks included Trump as well as Putin.
