The former president agrees that players should stand for the national anthem.

Former President Jimmy Carter agreed with President Trump on the issue of national anthem protests at NFL games, according to an interview with The New York Times.

CNN’s Bakari Sellers discussed the development on the network’s Sunday program, “State of the Union.”

“He’s wrong,” Sellers said. “He’s seen a lot, and to question these protest tactics, I think is just flat-out wrong.”

The CNN commentator also criticized Carter for wanting to keep Confederate monuments, but he said he would “give him a little leeway” because the former president is a Democrat.
