Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) admitted that Russian involvement in the 2016 election didn’t impact its outcome while speaking at the University of Richmond School of Law on Monday.

Kaine, who was the Democratic Party’s nominee for vice president in 2016, was speaking at an event billed as “The Constitution at 230: Signs of Stress and Resilience,” and was discussing constitutional problems facing the legislative branch.

“There were indictments today. We have a special prosecutor looking into whether an American election was compromised,” Kaine told the crowd. “Not compromised in the sense of the outcome, but compromised in the sense, ‘Was the integrity of the election attacked?'”

Hillary Clinton, Kaine’s running mate, regularly blames Russia and the FBI (among others) for their loss.
