During the last DNC Chair candidate debate, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) claimed that he was never against the 2nd Amendment, despite previous remarks that suggest Ellison indeed did oppose the 2nd Amendment.
CNN’s Dana Bash asked Ellison about the 2014 remarks, and how as DNC chair he would be able to reach out to Americans who support gun rights.
“First of all, let me tell you. I remember that show very well, and that is not what I said at all,” Ellison told Bash. “What I talked about is my grandfather’s shotgun, the fact that I am a turkey hunter, and I didn’t say that. That was not an accurate statement.”
During Ellison’s interview on HBO’s Real Time, Ellison did indeed talk about his grandfather’s shotgun.
However, when Bill Maher asked Ellison why his party wouldn’t come out in opposition to the 2nd Amendment, Ellison responded, “I sure wish they would.”
