The GOP senator said that Mueller may take the investigation from the counter-intelligence sphere to the criminal.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said that newly-minted Special Counsel Robert Mueller will probably take the investigation into Russian interference from a counter-intelligence investigation into a criminal investigation after a briefing from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Thursday.
“The takeaway I have is that everything [Rosenstein] said was that you need to treat this investigation as if it may be a criminal investigation,” Graham said.
“I think the biggest legal change seems to be that Mr. Mueller is going to proceed forward with the idea of a criminal investigation versus a counter-intelligence investigation,” he added.
Graham said that no reason had been given out for the change, but Congress should cautiously treat it as such.
