The Alabama senator is fighting hard to keep his seat from Moore.
Sen. Luther Strange (R-AL) tore apart primary challenger Roy Moore, a former Alabama Supreme Court justice, over his negative comments about President Trump during a debate on Thursday night.
Moore first attempted to claim that God is on his side during the campaign.
Strange shot back, saying that God is “on both of our sides.” Then he went in for the kill:
I think [God’s] on the president’s side. But one thing I do know, the president is on my side. The president is on my side. And what you just said reveals a total lack of understanding of the president and of his character and of his loyalty and of his friendship. You just said that he was being manipulated by Mitch McConnell.
To suggest that the president of the United States, a man who is changing the world, is being manipulated by Mitch McConnell is insulting to the president. It’s absolutely insulting to the president.
The incumbent senator pointed out that many of Moore’s high-profile backers had been kicked out of the White House for various failures during their time in the Trump administration.
“The president’s his own man,” he declared.
