“I don’t think [the Democratic] Party will have a true leader until will have a nominee for President in 2020,” McCaskill told constituents during a town hall.
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said that she doesn’t believe that the Democratic Party will have a leader until 2020 during a town hall in Harrisonville, MO on Friday.
A constituent asked McCaskill how to make the Democratic National Committee (DNC) more effective, citing DNC Chair Tom Perez’s poor performance in terms of fundraising and party unity.
“Anybody who thinks national parties are ever going to be the key to real change in this country probably hasn’t spent much time around political parties,” McCaskill said. “And the bottom line is that I don’t think my party will have a true leader until will have a nominee for President in 2020.”
“I think we are going to have lots of leaders between now and then a lot of people who are going to be trying to do the best job they know how to convince you and others that they would be a good president,” she added.
“Once the Democratic Party nominates someone for president in 2020, then you’ll see a coalescing where the national party will fall in under that president,” McCaskill said.
