Tony Cardenas, the House Minority Assistant Whip, remains undecided to Pelosi’s continuing leadership.
Rep. Tony Cardenas (D-CA), the Democratic Assistant Whip in the House of Representatives, refused to back House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in an appearance on CNN on Wednesday.
CNN’s John Berman pointed out that Cardenas took part in a meeting, following Democrats’ loss in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District, that discussed the possibility of replacing Pelosi.
“I think those meetings are necessary,” Cardenas said. “We lost the House in 2010. We didn’t regain it in 2012, ’14, or ’16. We’re fast approaching 2018. And what are we doing to make sure that our message is there, that we’re working for the people of America?”
“Obviously, we need to do a better job of communicating that,” he added.
Berman asked Cardenas if that means Democrats will replace Pelosi as their leader.
“No one person is more important than this country,” Cardenas responded.
Poppy Harlow pressed Cardenas again on Pelosi’s status. The California representative replied that meetings on that very question are important, leaving his judgement about Pelosi’s future undetermined.
