Embattled Democratic Senator Bob Menendez’s (D-NJ) campaign decided to politicize the Texas shooting moments after a jury began deliberating federal bribery charges filed against Menendez Monday afternoon.

Menendez is currently on trial in a federal court in New Jersey after having been charged, along with co-defendant Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgen, with 18 counts of fraud and bribery.

Concurrent with the announcement about jurors beginning deliberations, in that case, Menendez’s campaign Twitter account issued a series of tweets that blame Senate Republicans for the horrific mass shooting that took place in Texas on Sunday.

The first tweet from Menendez for NJ came roughly 20 minutes after the Associated Press reported that the jury began deliberating Menendez’s federal bribery case.
