The Treasury secretary would investigate any alleged ties between the Trump family and Russia.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin pledged that the Treasury Department would look into any financial ties between the Russian government and President Trump’s family at a Senate Banking Committee hearing on Thursday.
Mnuchin responded to Sen. Sherrod Brown’s (D-OH) questions on Trump’s ties, saying that he takes Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) issues “very serioiusly.”
Weekly CFIUS breifings inform Mnuchin on shady ties between American businesses and foreign governments.
“I can assure that if there were any cases that involved the president or any members of his family that they would be treated very seriously,” Mnuchin told Brown.
Brown emphasized that the public should be aware of any case that develops involving Trump and foreign governments.
