MSNBC’s Chief Legal Correspondent, Ari Melber, said Monday that Kellyanne Conway and Sean Spicer made a “fair point” when they said that former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper did not fully answer a question regarding wiretapping in Trump Tower.
Melber pointed out that Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) wiretap warrants are aimed at foreign operatives.
Clapper claimed that “there was no wiretap targeting anyone at Trump Tower,” Melber said.
This point did not fully answer the question, Melber said. According to Melber, Clapper’s answer left open the possibility that there could have been wiretapping at Trump Tower, but targeted at foreign operatives instead of Trump himself.
